Welcome to the 3rd Legacy Cities Conference held in Buffalo NY, July 12th-14th, 2018. The conference theme, “reGENerated” invites you to engage, learn, ponder, share, and consider solutions for our Legacy Cities.

Believing that Buffalo and similar cities can be the centers of creativity, innovation, and optimism they once were, if, as the Legacy Cities mission asserts: “the assets, energy, capacity and love for these places” are nurtured at the local level through “effective shifts in public policy, coordinated advocacy, mutual learning about what works, and careful, strategic implementation.” We invite you to share, inspire, and connect with conference attendees, and the Legacy City of Buffalo, and also the surrounding legacy cities of Niagara Falls and Lackawanna.

Buffalo’s Young Preservationists and Preservation Buffalo Niagara invite you to discuss preservation’s role in revitalizing Legacy Cities.  Carefully selected papers for panels, chosen through a competitive and rigorous process, should spark discussion as we answer the question “What type of city do we want?” Specifically:

  • What role can preservation play?
  • What role should preservation play in making important decisions regarding our cities’ futures?
  • How do we ensure that preservation is fair in telling the story of everyone in our community?

We hope you will be regenerated and reinvigorated, ready to lead our glorious Legacy Cities into the 21st Century as positive, equitable, beautiful, and sustainable, urban oases.

Our planning committee has attempted to provide enough time for breaks, and useful information, so you may explore and reflect on what is being shared. We have also worked with our local transportation agency, the NFTA (Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority), and the Reddy Bike Share program, to aid you in exploring the city and surrounding region.  Buffalo is a walkable city consisting of a web of over thirty distinct neighborhoods, that deserve your attention.  As one of America’s richest cities at the turn of the 20th Century, Buffalo has the architecture, parks, and cultural institutions to prove its position as a former powerhouse. Take some time and please visit our outstanding resources while you are here. You will not regret the experiences!

Thank you for registering and attending this 3rd Legacy Cities Conference. We hope you enjoy yourself and leave Buffalo inspired!
